Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between Leaders’ competencies, accountability, team building and the success of Emyooga Project among market vendors in Central and Kawempe Divisions in Kampala district. The study was guided by three objectives namely; to examine the relationship between Leaders’ competencies and the success of Emyooga project among market vendors in Central and Kawempe Divisions in Kampala district, to examine the relationship between accountability and the success of Emyooga project among market vendors in Central and Kawempe Divisions in Kampala district and to examine the relationship between
team building and the success of Emyooga project among market vendors in Central and Kawempe Divisions in Kampala district. The study adopted a quantitative cross sectional survey design and
employed the random sampling technique. The unit of analysis was Emyooga Project and the unit of inquiry was vendors from Wandegeya, Nakasero and St. Balikuddembe markets translating into
372 respondents. Data were collected through structured questionnaires then data analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientist (SPSS) software. Furthermore, data was tested for validity
and reliability and the results revealed that it was reliable and valid. The correlation coefficient analysis revealed a positive and significant relationship between leaders’ competencies and the success of Emyooga project among market vendors in Central and Kawempe Divisions, Kampala district, a positive and significant relationship between accountability and success of Emyooga project among market vendors in Central and Kawempe Divisions, Kampala district and a positive relationship between team building and success of Emyooga project among market vendors in Central and Kawempe Divisions, Kampala district. Furthermore, the multiple regression analysis showed that leaders’ competencies, accountability and team building contribute 57.2%of the variations in project success. The study concludes that leaders’ competencies, accountability and
team building enhance success of a project. Based on the above findings and observations, the study recommends that Government should invest in continuous leadership training programs that
focus on leaders’ competencies. It should also implement clear and transparent accountability frameworks and promote team-building activities and foster a culture of collaboration among project teams.
