Abstract
The focus of the study was to examine the relationship between team cohesion, information adequacy, interaction resonance and effective project communication. The low level of advocacy and limited awareness about WASH projects implemented in Uganda was the motivation for this study. A cross sectional quantitative design was used in the study with a sample of 70 WASH projects, but responses were obtained from 53 projects. The reliability and validity of the data collection instrument were established using a Cronbach Alpha coefficient and a content validity index respectively. Data was analyzed using SPSS software with a focus on percentage frequency distributions, Pearson correlation, factor analysis, regression analysis, and Sobel test for mediation analysis. The Pearson correlation coefficients showed a positive and statistically significant relationship between team cohesion, information adequacy, interaction resonances and effective project communication of WASH projects.
The regression analysis results indicated that information adequacy, interaction resonance have a positive direct significant relationship with effective project communication in WASH projects.
However team cohesion had no significant direct effect on effective project communication. The results also showed that the model was significant with a combined effect of 37.4%. It was therefore concluded that since information adequacy and interaction resonance have a direct significant relationship with effective project communication in WASH projects, an improvement in the above variables results in effective project communication. Mediation test indicated full mediation effect of interaction resonance in the relationship between team cohesion and effective project communication in WASH projects. Additionally, the mediation results indicated that interaction resonance had partial mediation effect in the relationship between information adequacy and effective project communication. Recommendations were suggested including: the need to forecast the communication needs of the project beneficiaries early enough so as to tailor project communication towards meeting these needs; the need by the implementing partners to improve the amount and quality of information
