Abstract
The purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between knowledge management, financial innovations and profitability of SACCOs in Fort Portal city. The objectives the study included; to establish the relationship between knowledge management and Profitability of SACCOs in Fort Portal city, to establish the relationship between financial innovation and Profitability of SACCOs in Fort Portal city and to establish the combined influence of financial innovation and knowledge management on Profitability of SACCOs in Fort Portal city. A cross-sectional survey design was employed. The Krejcie and Morgan table was utilized to determine the appropriate sample size for this study. Given a study population of 46 SACCOs operating within Fort Portal City (Fort Portal District Commercial Report, 2023), with a 95% confidence level and a ±5% margin of error as indicated by the table, the recommended sample size was 42. Validity and reliability of the research instrument was ensured. The results indicated that there is a positive significant relationship between knowledge management and profitability of SACCOs in Fort Portal City (r=.431, p<.01). They also indicated that there is a positive significant relationship between financial innovations and profitability of SACCOs in Fort Portal City (r=.638, p<.01). this implies that any positive change in knowledge management and financial innovations is associated with a positive change in profitability of SACCOs in Fort Portal City. The findings from the regression indicated that 43.4% (Adjusted R Square = .663) of variation in profitability of SACCOs in Fort Portal City is as a result of a combination of financial innovations and knowledge management (Interaction Term). This further implies that the remaining 56.6% is explained by other factors not considered in this study like political factors and climatic changes. It can therefore be recommended that SACCOs in Fort Portal City should integrate financial innovation and knowledge management strategies to enhance operational efficiency and member satisfaction. By leveraging financial innovations alongside effective knowledge practices, SACCOs can boost profitability and ensure long-term sustainability in a competitive environment.
