Abstract
This study examined project teamwork, budget management and success of youth development projects in Ntungamo district. A cross sectional survey design was employed whereby data were collected at a specific point in time. Given the nature of research objectives, correlation analysis was performed to test associations between the study variables, while a hierarchical regression analysis was used to test both the individual and combined predictive power of project teamwork and budget management on success of youth development projects. Data was analyzed using SPSS.
The study results show that there is a positive and significant relationship between project teamwork and project success. There was also a positive and significant relationship between budget management and project success The results also show that project teamwork and budget management explain 44.5% (R2=.445) of the variation in project success.
The study recommends that Project leaders should encourage team work within the members of the projects. This can be done through ensuring that there are clear lines of communication and encouraging collaboration at all stages of the project. Members should be trained on how to prepare, implement and control budgets in order to have projects running within the anticipated costs. The government and private entities that support youth development projects should consider organizing seminars in which they train members on managing the finances provided through budgets. The study suggests that future research may find out the relationship of other variables like stakeholder engagement, crisis management and team competences to find out if they explain the remaining percentage of project success. Also a longitudinal research design may also be adopted to determine the long term effects of budget management and project teamwork on project success among youth development projects.
