The purpose of the study was to examine the effectiveness of succession management at Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in Uganda. The focus was to examine the forms, contribution, challenges and strategies for improving succession management at URA. The study used a quantitative research approach to collect data and included a sample of 191 employees who were chosen to fill out the questionnaire. The study employed a simple random sampling technique, which resulted in a 100% response rate. The descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data using STATA. The study found that the key forms that were highly agreed upon by the respondents include encouraging employees to refresh their Learning/Training Programs to focus on supervisor-management leadership skills and refreshing the interviewing process for external candidates with “hiring for fit” receiving more importance. The findings indicated that all these contributions were highly agreed upon by all the respondents with a score between 97% - 99%. The findings indicate that the challenges affecting the implementation of succession management are; managers and supervisors do not assist employees in effective communication of the material and no emphasis on common goal to support URA’s mission and goals. The study recommends that URA should ensure mentorship and coaching to build a respectful relationship with the employees through listening actively, showing empathy, giving constructive feedback, and acknowledging their achievements and challenges.
