Abstract
This study was aimed at examining the relationship between budgeting, risk management and project implementation among NGOs that are empowering youth in Kampala, Uganda. The study used a cross sectional research design with a sample size of 285 NGOs that are empowering youth in Kampala from which 240 projects responded indicating a response rate of 84.21%. Findings revealed a significant and positive relationship between budgeting and project implementation.
Further still findings indicated that there is a significant positive relationship between risk management and project implementation. Overall budgeting and risk management explain 43.4% of the variance in project implementation among NGOs that are empowering youth in Kampala. In addition, risk management was found a stronger predictor of project implementation compared to budgeting. Therefore, the study recommended that the management of NGOs that are empowering youth in Kampala should put more efforts in managing risks during their operation in order to attain the desired level of project implementation. This can be done through intensifying activities related to risk identification, risk monitoring, risk assessment and risk response. Further studies may also be conducted to ascertain other predictors of project implementation among NGOs that are empowering youth in Kampala given that the independent variables only predict 43.4%.
