Abstract
The study focused on examining the relationship between electronic ordering, payment systems, goods delivery and the performance of online retail businesses in Uganda. A case of Jumia Uganda limited online retailers with online marketplaces for electronics, and fashion among others was considered. The research used a cross-sectional quantitative survey research design to examine the relationship between the study variables with a sample size of 152 respondents. Data were analyzed using SPSS with a focus on descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis.
The results revealed a positive significant relationship between electronic ordering and the goods delivery, a positive relationship between payment systems and goods delivery, a significant positive relationship between goods delivery and the performance of online retail businesses, positive significant relationship between electronic ordering and the performance of online retail businesses need to be catered for and a positive significant relationship between payment systems and the performance of online retail businesses.
The findings also indicate that the goods delivery was the most significant predictor of performance of online retail businesses followed by payment systems and last was electronic ordering. The study concluded that business and consumer transactions require trust, expedience, security and privacy, people need to be educated on their use, ensure trust meaning that consumers are willing to use e-payment and the need to strengthen the capacity of the people through sensitization and education. The likelihood of shopping online and profile of consumers may vary. The study recommends product delivery off-line and online channels for the retailers.
