Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between creative climate, employee engagement and innovative work behavior among employees at Humanity and Inclusion in Uganda. Employees of Humanity and Inclusion reported that they cannot solve problems beyond their normal duties, there was little or no endeavor to focus on idea generation, promotion, realization and opportunity exploration affecting their ability to deliver quality services to the beneficiaries. It has also been reported that employees use ordinary work methods and they do not introduce new ideas on board hence limiting innovative work behavior in the Organization. Hence the research objectives were: to examine the relationship between creative climate and innovative work behavior among employees at Humanity and Inclusion in Uganda, to examine the relationship between creative climate and employee engagement among employees at Humanity and Inclusion in Uganda, to examine the relationship between employee engagement and innovative work behavior among employees at Humanity and Inclusion in Uganda and to examine the mediating effect of employee engagement in the relationship between creative climate and innovative work behavior among employees at Humanity and Inclusion in Uganda. This study employed a cross sectional design. The population of the study constituted 230 employees of Humanity and Inclusion and from this a sample of 144 was identified through simple random sampling. A questionnaire was used to collect data. Findings show that there is a significant positive relationship between creative climate and innovative work behavior among employees at Humanity and Inclusion in Uganda, there is a significant positive relationship between creative climate and employee engagement among employees at Humanity and Inclusion in Uganda, there is a significant positive relationship between employee engagement and innovative work behavior among employees at Humanity and Inclusion in Uganda and that the two independent variables in combination predict 69percent of the variance in innovative work behavior. It was also found that employee engagement significantly partially mediates the relationship between creative climate and innovative work behavior among employees at Humanity and Inclusion in Uganda. Hence it was recommended that Humanity and Inclusion Uganda should focus on strategies that foster a creative climate, invest in training and development programs that promote creativity, innovation and incorporate employee feedback into their strategic planning and decision making processes.
