Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine the operation practices Decentralized Organizations using case study of Exodus SACCO . The study based on three objectives that to examine the operations practices of Exodus SACCO in Uganda, to examine the challenges of operations practices of Exodus SACCO in Uganda, to examine the strategies to improve the operations practices of Exodus SACCO in Uganda. The study was adopted using cross-sectional research design. This is because it indicates the state of variables at a single point in time in different areas of an organization, Mbonigaba, (2015). This was made possible with the use of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. To validate this information, the findings were compared with other ideas in literature review.
The population study comprised 240 respondents who included 13 Exodus SACCO regional liaison staff, 182 district/divisional police commanders/managers, 4 Recovery officers and 2 human resource/administration officers and 39 staff Head office Exodus SACCO. The study considered a sample size of 148 according to Krejcie and Morgan (1970). The researcher used simple random sampling because it was very important to identify reliable sources of information.
According to the table 4.3 from total respondents it was revealed that that the Sacco operates on a cooperative basis and controlled by their members at a (Mean = 4.4298 with standard deviation of 0.75085. The Sacco encourage members to save regularly by offering various savings products at a (Mean = 4.2727 with standard deviation of 0.86603).
Exodus SACCO in Uganda faces both opportunities and challenges in its operations, as revealed by the survey findings. While the SACCO operates on a cooperative basis with member control, the survey identified key areas for improvement, including loan recovery, funding adequacy, member training and education, savings culture and technological enhancements. By strategically addressing these challenges through comprehensive strategies such as enhancing loan recovery processes. To enhance trust and transparency within the SACCO, it is recommended that Exodus SACCO strengthen its governance structure and ensure strict adherence to regulatory guidelines.
