The study sought to contribute to knowledge on stakeholder engagement and psychological empowerment contributes to the improvement of road projects performance in Uganda. This study aimed at examining the relationship between internal stakeholder engagement, psychological empowerment and performance of public construction projects in Kampala. This study was greatly based on the objectives: to examine the relationship between internal stakeholder engagement and project performance, to examine the relationship between psychological empowerment and project performance and to examine the extent to which internal stakeholder engagement and psychological empowerment predict project performance. The study used a cross sectional research design with a sample size of 92 public construction projects in Kampala from which 81 responded indicating a response rate of 88%. The data was tested for reliability, analyzed using SPSS v23 and results presented based on the study objectives. Findings revealed a significant and positive relationship between internal stakeholder engagement and project performance. Further still findings indicated that there is a significant positive relationship between psychological empowerment and project performance. Overall internal stakeholder engagement and psychological empowerment explain 62.9% of the variance in performance of public construction projects in Kampala. In addition, psychological empowerment was found a stronger predictor of project performance compared to internal stakeholder engagement. Therefore, the study recommended that public construction projects in Kampala should put more efforts in improving staff competence, meaningfulness, self-determination and impact while running project activities in order to attain the desired project outcomes. Further studies may also be conducted to ascertain other predictors of public construction projects performance in Kampala given that the independent variables only predict 62.9%.
