dc.description.abstract | The main purpose of the Study was to examine the level of adoption of Point of Sale terminals, understand the challenges of POS adoption, and recommend strategies to improve POS adoption among customers of Stanbic Bank Uganda. The study addressed the following specific Objectives; i.) To examine level of Point of Sale adoption by the customers of Stanbic Bank Uganda, ii.) To establish the challenges of Point of Sale adoption by the customers of Stanbic Bank Uganda and iii.) To propose strategies the bank should adopt to improve Point of Sale adoption amongst her customers. To achieve these objectives, the study used a cross-sectional research design survey, coupled with quantitative techniques though some unstructured items were also included in the questionnaire. The questionnaire was tested for both validity and reliability using the CVI and the Cronbach alpha estimates which were above 0.700 for both, lending credibility to the fact that the research questionnaire was reliable. Targeting 384 stanbic bank customers, 236 usable responses were acquired, representing 61.4% of the sample. Data was captured and analysed using SPSS version 23.0 and, the results showed further, that the frequency of using the POS Terminals is still low among customers as is the volume of weekly transactions using these machines. The level of adoption was noted to be quite unsatisfactory from the means that were all less than 3.00 and a Standard Deviation that was less than 1.00 for all items that were asking for the usage, trust and confidence in the usage of POS terminals. Additionally, the findings revealed a number of the challenges that are being experienced by the users of the POS terminal machines and among others, the users reported that the network is very unreliable for these terminals while the POS terminals are also scarce and cannot be readily found expect one travels long distances. Further, the element of trust is still wanting among these customers for POS terminals of Stanbic bank. Against this background, a number of strategies were raised by the respondents which could improve the usage of the POS terminals. For example, the respondents believed that if the POS terminals are made more accessible in the towns and agents commissioned to serve customers in semi-urban areas, then the result would be an improvement in the usage of the Stanbic POS terminals and of course, this would translate into improved revenues for the bank. | |
