Abstract
The purpose of the study is to examine the relationship between Project Planning, Artificial Intelligence Usage and Performance of Disaster Relief Projects in Central Uganda during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The research problem was that performance of many projects is lacking especially the recent disaster relief projects during the Covid-19 lockdown in central Uganda. Hence the objectives of the study were to examine the relationship between project planning and project performance, to examine the relationship between Artificial Intelligence Usage and project performance and to examine the combined effect of project planning and Artificial Intelligence Usage on project performance.
The researcher used a quantitative research approach to this study which was based on a cross sectional design. The study population was 40 projects from which 36 were chosen as the sample. A questionnaire was used to collect data. The projects are the unit of analysis and the staff are the unit of inquiry. Findings show that project planning and project performance are both significantly and positively related (r =.677**, p<.01), there was a significant positive relationship between Artificial Intelligence Usage and project performance (r=.793, p<.01) and that both project planning and Artificial Intelligence usage predict 63.6 percent of the variance in project performance (Adjusted R Square = 0.636). On the basis of these findings, it was recommended that in these projects and such that may arise in the future, extensive planning must be undertaken by the project managers and this should be mandatory going forward. Artificial Intelligence usage should become a part of projects such as the disaster relief projects in this study. The projects should make it a policy that Artificial Intelligence capabilities are critically thought about, explored and used where necessary in order to boost performance. It was also recommended that the findings of this study should also be published to further support existing theory on project performance.
