    Makerere University Business School an Examination of the Girl Child Education Project in Koboko District.

    The study sought to examine the Girl Child Education Project by articulating the strategies used in the implementation of the project in Koboko District and suggesting other strategies for the project. The study was guided by three research objectives which include; 1. To examine the girl child education project methods of implementation, 2. To identify challenges affecting the girl child education project and 3. To suggest possible strategies to improve the girl child education project. The study adopted a cross sectional survey approach which was descriptive and analytical in nature. The data was tested for reliability using the Cronbach’s Alpha Reliability Coefficient for Likert-Type Scales test and validity using the Content Validity Index (CVI) on the scale of very relevant (4), quite relevant (3), somewhat relevant (2), and not relevant (1). It was then analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21 and the results were presented based on the study objectives. A population of the study was comprised of staff of WOGFOJ and key stakeholders like Education Officers, Teachers and Partner Organizations. The findings of the study indicate that the project suffered lifecycle gaps, cultural practices such as early marriages and preference of boys over girls have affected the project, Partners played a pivotal role in the success of the project and that community engagement was not sufficient. The harmful cultural practices such as early marriage, subjecting the girls to errands and chores before going to school coupled with the long distance of the schools has been identified as a hindrance of girl’s education. Moreover, there is a limited capacity to implement gender Related projects. The researcher made some recommendations that could help improve the project or other related projects such as; Community involvement and participation as the key for project success, attention to issues affecting girl children rather than considering them women issues, it is important to always employ full time professional Project Managers for any given project and the need for the project to be rolled out to the other sub counties such that all the girl children in the district are brought on board to benefit from the proceeds that come with the success of the project.
