Abstract
This study examined and proposed strategies for improved stakeholder engagement practices in RHITES-N Acholi project. The objectives of the study were; assess the level of stakeholder engagement; challenges of stakeholder engagement; and recommend strategies for improving stakeholder engagement. This was a cross-sectional research design along with a quantitative research approach. The study used a sample of 159 stakeholders comprising of local leaders and community members from a total of 270 stakeholders. Data was obtained with the help of structured questionnaire instrument. Validity of the instrument was obtained using CVI and reliability was determined through pretesting and Cronbach Alpha coefficient. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 25. The study used descriptive statistics to present and interpret results. Demographic results were presented in a frequency table and interpreted using percent values. Mean and Standard deviation tables were used to interpret results in relation to study objectives. The study found low level of Stakeholder engagement practices. Dialogue was the least practice, followed by communication, involvement and lastly interaction. The major challenges of stakeholder engagement were; varied interests among stakeholders; isolation of stakeholders from important issues; low commitment of project team; and knowledge gap among stakeholders. The study identified that the major strategies for enhancing stakeholder engagement were; effective communication; increased collaboration; and intensifying reporting frequency. This study recommends; effective communication; full involvement of stakeholders; seeking dialogue with stakeholder; and increased reporting frequency to stimulate stakeholder engagement in in RHITES-N Acholi project.
