Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the effects of credit management practices and credit terms on the financial sustainability of SACCOs in Jinja District. This study was prompted by the noticeable financial challenges faced by SACCOs in Uganda, particularly within the Jinja region. The primary objectives were to examine the relationship between credit management practices and financial sustainability, explore how credit terms affect SACCOs' financial sustainability, and assess the joint effects of credit management and credit terms on SACCOs' long-term viability. A correlation survey was chosen for this research, and data were gathered via self-administered questionnaires, targeting individuals in managerial positions within the SACCOs. A sample of 92 participants was randomly selected from 120 SACCOs through a random sampling technique, and the data were examined using SPSS version 25, utilizing regression analysis and correlation techniques to identify patterns and relationships between the variables. The results showed a positive correlation for credit management practices, credit terms, and the financial sustainability of SACCOs. Specifically, credit management practices explained 22% of the variation in SACCOs' financial sustainability, while credit terms accounted for 23.2%. In light of these findings, I recommend that SACCOs need to focus on improving credit management practices and offering favorable credit terms to strengthen their financial sustainability. This approach will help SACCO managers and operators to enhance operational efficiency and overall financial health.
