| dc.description.abstract | This study examined the relationship between goal congruence, commitment, and performance of savings groups in Mbarara Municipality. The study was prompted by reports that members' contributions have remained small, which has affected the capital base of the savings groups, and that members who take loans from the savings groups tend to default. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, whereby data were collected at a specific point in time. Given the nature of research objectives, correlation analysis was performed to test associations between the study variables, while a hierarchical regression analysis was used to test both the individual and combined predictive power of goal congruence and commitment on performance. Data was analyzed using SPSS. The study results show that both goal congruence and commitment have a significant relationship with performance, which is in line with the previous studies. The results also show that goal congruence and commitment combined explain 32% (R2=.320) of the variation in performance. Member of savings groups ought to understand the goals of a group before joining it so as to establish if they match their individual goals. More so if every member of the group is committed to the group’s objectives, they ought to ensure the performance of the group. The study recommends that other sectors, like manufacturing firms, bigger financial institutions, and projects, be investigated to confirm the findings. | |
