dc.description.abstractThe focus of the study is to examine the relationship between institutional pressures, supply chain integration and supply chain performance. The continuous supply chain performance deficiencies like poor quality products, late deliveries, or complete delivery failures faced by the wood furniture firms are the ground motivation for this study. A cross-sectional design and quantitative approach are used in the study with a census survey of 100 registered firms and 300 individual respondents, but only 86 firms and 247 individuals responded. The reliability and validity of the data collection instrument are established using a Cronbach Alpha coefficient and content validity respectively. Data were analyzed using SPSS software with a focus on descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Pearson correlation coefficient and hierarchical regression analysis. The Pearson correlation coefficients show a positive and significant relationship between all the study variables. Further, the results from the hierarchical regression analysis reveal that institutional pressure and supply chain integration (internal and external integration) are all significant predictors of supply chain performance and accounts for the variance of 67.6%. It is therefore concluded that the two predictor variables are prerequisites to supply chain performance and need to be given attention. Recommendations are suggested including the need by the professional bodies, competitors and regulatory agencies to subject firms within the chain into pressure so as to improve on the performance of the chain; the need to train and sensitize firms about the challenges and opportunities available in the business environment; the need to establish good and strong communication systems in place so as to encourage free interaction and exchange of information among members and finally the need for firms to work closely with the customers and suppliers so as to understand their requirements in terms of quality and delivery.
