Abstract
This study was aimed at examining the relationship between dynamic capabilities, financial innovations, institutional pressures, and financial performance of financial service firms in Uganda. This aim was achieved through these specific objectives: to examine the relationship between dynamic capabilities and financial performance, to examine the relationship between financial innovations and financial performance, and to examine the relationship between institutional pressures and the financial performance of financial services firms in Uganda. The study used a cross-sectional research design with a sample size of 159 financial services firms in Uganda, from which 143 responded, indicating a response rate of 90.5%. The data was tested for reliability, analyzed using SPSS v23, and the results were presented based on the study objectives. Findings revealed a significant and positive relationship between dynamic capabilities and financial performance. There is a significant positive relationship between financial innovations and financial performance. Further still, findings indicated that there is a significant positive relationship between institutional pressures and financial performance. Overall, dynamic capabilities, financial innovations, and institutional pressures explain 63.8% of the variance in the financial performance of financial service firms in Uganda. In addition, institutional pressures were found to be a stronger predictor of financial performance compared to dynamic capabilities and financial innovations. Therefore, the study recommends that financial service firms in Uganda should adhere to institutional pressures that are coercive, mimetic, and normative to achieve improvement in financial performance. Also, Financial services firms should promote financial innovations through mobile, internet banking, and the provision of ATMs. Further studies may also be conducted to ascertain other predictors of the financial performance of financial service firms in Uganda.
