dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between project management competency, stakeholder engagement and project sustainability in health projects in Kampala and Wakiso. The study was guided by the following research objectives; to examine the relationship between project management competency and project sustainability, to examine the relationship between project management competency and stakeholder engagement and to examine the relationship between stakeholder engagement and project sustainability. The research followed a cross sectional survey, descriptive design and adopted the quantitative approach. Primary data was collected using self-administered questionnaires that were issued to the respondents. The population was drawn from 190 health projects in Kampala and Wakiso and the study comprised of a sample size of 127 health projects. Data was analyzed with the help of the Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS). Pearson’s correlation and regression were used to determine relationship, predictability of study variables. There was a significant positive relationship between project management competency and project sustainability, a significant positive relationship between project management competency and stakeholder engagement a significant positive relationship between stakeholder engagement and project sustainability and stakeholder engagement mediates the relationship between project management competency and project sustainability by satisfying the conditions of the SOBEL test. Predictor variables explained 37.1% of the variance in project sustainability but project management competency was a better predictor variable than stakeholder engagement. The researcher recommended for development and implementation of training programs focused on project management competency and stakeholder engagement for health project managers. These programs should include modules on communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills to strengthen stakeholder collaboration.
