dc.description.abstractThis study examined the influence of stakeholder engagement and government procurement policy on the performance of Green Public Procurement (GPP) within Procurement and Disposal Entities (PDEs) in Kampala. Employing a cross-sectional quantitative design, from a sampling size of 101, data were successfully collected from 84 selected PDEs using a simple random sampling procedure and a structured questionnaire, further data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 25. Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyses revealed that both stakeholder engagement and government procurement policy have significant positive relationships with GPP performance with r values of 0.413 and 0.470 respectively. Notably, government procurement policy showed a slightly stronger predictive effect. The combined model explained 28.7% of the variance in GPP performance, highlighting the importance of integrating inclusive stakeholder participation with robust procurement policies to enhance environmentally sustainable procurement outcomes. Grounded in stakeholder theory and institutional theory, the findings emphasize that effective green procurement in Uganda requires both strong institutional frameworks and active engagement of relevant stakeholders. The study recommends strengthening policy implementation and institutionalizing stakeholder engagement mechanisms. These insights contribute to enhancing the environmental sustainability of public procurement in developing countries. The study proposes longitudinal studies and use of qualitative or mixed approach as areas of further research.
