dc.description.abstractThis study was motivated by the fact that, despite multiple government interventions aimed at improving green logistics performance - including Uganda's ban on importing vehicles older than 15 years, and tax incentives for eco-friendly vehicles, clearing and forwarding companies in Uganda continue to face significant sustainability challenges. The study examines the relationship between fleet management and green logistics performance of clearing and forwarding companies in Uganda. Specifically, it examined relationship between driver management and green logistics performance, relationship between fuel management and green logistics performance, relationship between route optimization and green logistics performance, relationship between driver management and route optimization, relationship between fuel management and route optimization, mediating role of route optimization in the relationship between driver management and green logistics performance, mediating role of route optimization in the relationship between fuel management and green logistics performance. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design using a quantitative approach. Based on a population of 240, the sample size was 148 clearing and forwarding companies. The key findings reveal strong correlation between driver management and green logistics performance, very weak correlation between fuel management and green logistics performance, weak correlation with route optimization and green logistics performance, driver management and route optimization, strong correlation between fuel management and route optimization, route optimization does not mediate the relationship between driver management and green logistics performance, route optimization fully mediates relationship between fuel management and green logistics performance. Policymakers should develop and enforce sector-specific fuel efficiency standards to guide sustainable fleet operations and provide fiscal incentives, such as tax breaks or subsidies, for the adoption of eco-friendly vehicles and green logistics technologies.
