dc.description.abstractThe research addresses how project planning and stakeholder involvement influences project sustainability. Cross-sectional research designed was used to investigate the influence of project planning, stakeholder engagement, and project sustainability of community-based projects in Gulu City, Northern Uganda. The study focused on a sample of 127 community based organizations’ projects selected from the 200 registered community-based organizations, A total of 381 respondents were considered during the study, Data analysis was done using SPSS version 25.0, utilizing both descriptive and inferential statistics was used to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that effective project planning contributes 52.6% towards project sustainability and stakeholder engagement contribute 45.1% towards project sustainability are critical for achieving sustainable project outcomes. Statistical analysis showed a positive and significant relationship between project planning and project sustainability, stakeholder engagement has positive and significant relationship with project sustainability. The Combination of these factors explained only 37.0% of the variance in project sustainability meaning other factors contribute 63% on project sustainability. The study concludes that integrating sustainability into project planning and fostering stakeholder engagement enhances long-term success of project sustainability. Recommendations include prioritizing inclusive stakeholder engagement, improving communication, and incorporating sustainability frameworks from the project onset. Future research should explore the influence of culture in influencing of community-based projects for their sustainability. Limitations of the study, such as sample size and potential biases in self-reported data, are acknowledged, with suggestions for larger, more varied samples in future research.
