| dc.description.abstract | This study examined contract management practices at Mukono Municipal Council. The specific objectives were to examine the contract management practices, assess the challenges faced in implementing and appropriate strategies for strengthening contract management practices. Data was collected from 163 respondents from Mukono Municipal Council concerning contract management practices using a self-administered questionnaire. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Scientist (SPSS). Results indicated that the overall contract design, contract administration and relationship management as key practices in contract management in Mukono Municipal council (their items had a mean above 3.50). However, for relationship management practices, some items such has that concerning establishing relationships with suppliers and building trust as well as are collaborating with suppliers had a lower mean because establishing collaborative relationships with suppliers is something not recommend in public sector procurement. Furthermore, the study shows that some of the challenges faced in implementing contract management practices include lack of access to information regarding the contract, and lack of capacity in contract management and monitoring of various stakeholders among others. The study findings indicated that management may advocate for better human capacity to handle contracts as well capacity development for staff in contract management. Management may carry out frequent formal review meetings for successful contract relationships, commit enough resources for contract management and enhance professional leadership to provide vision and direction towards commitment to contract management practices. | |
