dc.description | Atleast 40 million people were infected with HIV World wide by the end of 2001, 90% of whom live in the developing countries. Less than 5% of these were able to access drugs that suppress the HIV Virus (ARVs) by the end of 2001. In Uganda, the epidermic was noted to have grown from the first case reported in 1983 to accumulative number of two million infected persons by the year 2000. which made the Uganda Gorvernment to adopt measures to fight the epidermic. Measures that were put in place to combat this epidermic in Uganda included increased awareness, sex education and safe blood transfussion measures. To these, use of ARVT has been added and is fast growing both in Gorvernment and public health centres. With still alot to be discovered about HIV itself, much is still to be appreciated about the drugs used to fight it including their side effects. | |
