The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between technological innovation, capital accessibility, and the survival of hardware Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Mukono Municipality, Uganda. The study was motivated by the persistent high failure rates of SMEs, which continue to undermine employment creation and local economic development despite their significant contribution to the country's economy. A quantitative cross-sectional research design was adopted. The study targeted 175 registered hardware SMEs in Mukono Municipality, from which a sample of 122 respondents was selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires, and 100 valid responses were obtained, representing a response rate of 82.1%. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS Version 21). Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were employed to analyze the data and test the study objectives. The findings revealed that technological innovation has a positive and statistically significant relationship with the survival of hardware SMEs (r = 0.485, p < 0.05), while capital accessibility exhibited an even stronger positive relationship with SME survival (r = 0.565, p < 0.05). Regression analysis further established that technological innovation and capital accessibility jointly explained 37.6% of the variation in SME survival, with capital accessibility emerging as the stronger predictor. The study concludes that the survival of hardware SMEs depends largely on their ability to adopt technological innovations and access affordable financial resources. It recommends that policymakers and financial institutions strengthen access to affordable credit, promote digital transformation among SMEs, provide financial literacy and technology adoption programs, and develop supportive policies that enhance innovation and business sustainability. These interventions will improve the resilience, competitiveness, and long-term survival of hardware SMEs in Uganda. [AI Generated Abstract]
