| dc.description.abstract | The study explores organizational culture and leadership style with regard to individual work performance amongst local government employees in the Ankole sub-region. The three main objectives guiding this research are: first, to establish the extent to which organizational culture has an influence on work performance; second, to determine the degree to which leadership style impacts work performance; and lastly, the combined contribution of organizational culture and leadership style. For the organizational culture measurement, dimensions included involvement, consistency, adaptability, and mission. The leadership style dimensions include autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire approaches. To assess the work performance of individuals, task performance, contextual performance, and adaptive performance were assessed. A quantitative approach in regression analysis showed that the organizational culture significantly predicts employee performance, β = 0.314, p < 0.01. While there was a significant effect of leadership style in the first model, this variable became non-significant when organizational culture was added to the model. Therefore, the combined model explained more variance in the dependent variable (adjusted R² = 0.134) and underlined how organizational culture augments the role of leadership style regarding effective performance. It is suggested that local governments implement policies to establish strong, supportive cultures, which should eventually lead to better leadership and higher-performing employees. Limitations are the cross-section nature of the survey and regional scope. Longitudinal studies, subculture explorations, and cross-regional comparisons are welcome for further research. | |
