| dc.description.abstract | This research focused on the management of counterproductive work behavior at Makerere College School (MACOS). Specifically, this research aimed to examine the forms of counterproductive work behaviour exhibited by teachers at MACOS, its drivers and to suggest actionable strategies to manage such behavior. The study employed a cross sectional survey approach and therefore, data for this research was gathered once from the teachers without repeat. A quantitative approach using questionnaires to generate data was employed. 86 questionnaires were distributed to the teachers. The researcher however succeeded in receiving back 67 fully filled questionnaires which accounts for 77.9% response rate. Quantitative data analysis was undertaken using Statistical Package for Social Scientists to obtain the mean and standard deviation scores. The results show that the most exhibited counterproductive behaviour was that some staff report to work past the prescribed arrival time without authorization, some staff utilizes extended break time, and staff usually do not report to work with justifiable reasons. The most expressed drivers were that the leadership of the school does not treat all staff in the same way and that staff at the school engage in behaviors which are reflective of their unique characters. The most acknowledged strategies for managing the counterproductive behaviour was that the school should provide ongoing counselling services to staff and the leadership of the school should always fulfill the promises made to staff. It was therefore recommended that an effective attendance management system should be instituted by the school. This could involve clear plans of work for the term, records taking and spot checking. | |
