Abstract
This study examines the relationship between stakeholder management, inter-organizational coordination, and top management support in shaping social sustainability practices among humanitarian organizations in Uganda. Specifically, it assesses both the individual and joint influence of these three factors on sustainability outcomes. The research adopts a cross-sectional quantitative design, drawing responses from 101 out of 150 targeted humanitarian organizations operating in Kampala. Findings indicate a strong and statistically significant link between stakeholder management and social sustainability practices. Inter-organizational coordination and top management support also demonstrate moderate but significant relationships, though the latter’s contribution was weaker and statistically insignificant. Among the three variables, stakeholder management emerges as the strongest predictor, followed by inter-organizational coordination, while top management support plays a relatively limited role. The study concludes that effective stakeholder engagement is the most critical driver of social sustainability in humanitarian organizations. However, inter-organizational coordination and top management support remain valuable complementary factors. To strengthen sustainability efforts, humanitarian organizations should prioritize inclusive stakeholder consultation, foster collaboration through shared platforms and joint strategies, and ensure consistent strategic and financial backing from leadership. A holistic approach that integrates all three dimensions stakeholder management, coordination, and leadership support is essential for promoting ethical practices, community well-being, and long-term sustainable development in the sector.
