Abstract
This study examined the relationship between electronic banking, social networks, and financial inclusion of microenterprise operators in the Rwampara district. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, whereby data were collected at a specific point in time. Given the nature of research objectives, correlation analysis was performed to test associations between the study variables, while a hierarchical regression analysis was used to test both the individual and combined predictive power of electronic banking and social networks on financial inclusion. Data was analyzed using SPSS. The study results show that electronic banking has a positive and significant relationship with financial inclusion (r=.379**). Also, social networks have a positive and significant relationship with financial inclusion (r=.566**). The results also show that electronic banking and social networks combined explain 35.9% (R2=.359) of the variation in financial inclusion. The study recommends that owners of micro enterprises should ensure that they create larger and more dependable social circles and networks that will aid them in getting information on how to access financial services. These networks should include individuals who can guarantee them in banks to use the financial services. Banks need to continuously improve electronic banking services such that they are reliable and affordable for all their customers, thus improving financial inclusion. The study suggests that future research may find the relationship of other variables like marketing strategies, managerial skills, and cash management to find out if they explain the remaining percentage of financial inclusion. Also, a country-wide research on electronic banking, social networks, and financial inclusion should be carried out to confirm if the findings of this study are representative of the whole country.
