dc.description.abstractThis study examined the relationship between capital structure, inventory management system and financial performance of small and medium enterprises in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality. The study employed a cross-sectional research design where data was collected at a specific point in time. Primary data was collected from the SMEs using a questionnaire. The data collected was analyzed using the correlation and regression statistical techniques The results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between capital structure and financial performance of SMEs in Bushenyi Ishaka municipality. Further, the results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between inventory management system and financial performance of SMEs in Bushenyi Ishaka municipality. It was also established that a combination of capital structure and inventory management system contributed 51% of changes in financial performance of these SMEs. The study recommended that small and medium enterprises need to widely adopt automated inventory management systems that will help to easily track inventory flow and cycles which will in turn yield a better financial performance. The golden ratio cost of capital should be adopted by the small and medium enterprises to ensure that the debt and equity are in balance such that the costs related to the capital employed are minimized hence leading to financial performance.
