Abstract
Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) beneficiaries in Entebbe municipality are operating under recurring disbursement delays. Delay in disbursement affects the abilities of the beneficiaries to effectively improve on their economic situations and this also limits the ability of the programme to achieve its full potential in improving women’s economic empowerment. These delays likely contributed to significant budget shortfalls, which may have led to lower performance of the UWEP programme (Namisango,2024).
The study seeks to examine the project success in UWEP. The research utilized a cross-sectional design that facilitated the gathering of quantitative data through self-completed questionnaires. The target population included 46 group UWEP beneficiaries in the Entebbe municipality. To ascertain the sample size of 40 UWEP beneficiaries, the study employed the Krejcie& Morgan (1970) sample distribution table.
The quantitative data was analyzed using SPSS Version 26. The findings of the study revealed that the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) has shown significant positive impacts on women's economic empowerment, particularly for those already engaged in business. Studies indicate that UWEP has led to increased income, enhanced skills, improved business growth, and a better standard of living for participating women.
In conclusion the study revealed that the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) has shown significant positive impacts on women's economic empowerment, particularly for those already engaged in business. Studies indicate that UWEP has led to increased income, enhanced skills, improved business growth, and a better standard of living for participating women. Overall, women's empowerment through entrepreneurship can help to promote gender equality, economic growth, and social development, benefiting both women entrepreneurs and society as a whole. It is an essential investment that can create long-lasting change and improve the lives of women and their families. However, challenges related to accessibility, awareness, and bureaucratic hurdles need to be addressed to maximize the program's potential. The researcher recommends that management of UWEP should expand the Women Enterprise Fund (WEF) and explore innovative financing mechanisms tailored to women-owned businesses. Equip women entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills to manage finances effectively, access loans, and build credit. Address issues like collateral requirements and complex application processes that disproportionately affect women. Management of UWEP should connect women entrepreneurs with experienced mentors and create platforms for peer-to-peer learning and support. Help women entrepreneurs with business planning, marketing, and other essential skills. Assist women in registering their businesses and navigating legal and regulatory requirements. Management of UWEP should connect women entrepreneurs with potential buyers, distributors, and customers. Provide timely and relevant information on market trends, consumer preferences, and export opportunities. Encourage women entrepreneurs to add value to their products and explore new markets.
