Business performance of commercial banks is critical to the stability and growth of the economy because it enhances financial intermediation, promotes investment, and supports economic development. This study examined the relationship between business process redesign, financial resilience, and business performance of commercial banks in Kampala. Specifically, the study investigated the relationship between business process redesign and business performance, the relationship between business process redesign and financial resilience, the relationship between financial resilience and business performance, and the mediating role of financial resilience in the relationship between business process redesign and business performance. The study adopted a cross-sectional research design and employed a quantitative research approach. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to employees of commercial banks in Kampala. Of the 96 questionnaires distributed, 90 were returned, yielding a response rate of 93.7%. Data were aggregated to the unit of analysis and analysed using Pearson correlation, multiple regression, and mediation analyses. The findings revealed a positive and significant relationship between business process redesign and business performance, business process redesign and financial resilience, as well as financial resilience and business performance. Regression analysis indicated that business process redesign and financial resilience explained 40.3% of the variation in business performance (Adjusted R² = 0.403). Mediation analysis further established that financial resilience partially mediates the relationship between business process redesign and business performance. The findings suggest that innovative rethinking of business processes enhances employees’ ability to perform tasks efficiently through knowledge sharing, thereby increasing employee loyalty, improving public image, attracting customers, and expanding market share. The study concludes that business process redesign and financial resilience are important drivers of business performance in commercial banks. It recommends that commercial banks should foster a culture of continuous improvement in their operations and develop comprehensive financial resilience frameworks to strengthen their capacity to withstand financial shocks and sustain long-term performance.
