This study was to establish the relationship between employee welfare, employee engagement and teacher performance in UPE schools in Mbarara city. The education sector in Mbarara city was characterized with many strikes, absenteeism and demonstrations (Beinomugisha, 2019). The study adopted a cross-sectional research design which included quantitative approach of data collection and analysis. The study involved a sample size of 123 teachers from 52 UPE schools was arrived at using Krejcie and Morgan 1970 table. Respondents were subjected to a close-ended questionnaire, Data from the field was processed and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS). Pearson correlation was conducted to test the relationship between the study variables while hieratical regression was used to test the combined effect of independent variables with the dependent variable. The results indicated that there a positive significant relationship between employee welfare and employee engagement and this was also observed between employee welfare and teacher performance and employee engagement and teacher performance. The results also indicated that employee welfare and employee engagement explain 39.9% of the variations in teachers’ performance. Therefore, there is need by the management and government to build for the teachers of UPE houses where they can always reside, make the school a safe place for them, make the school environment good for research and always provide for them meals from morning to evening. This is because it will make them concentrate on teaching rather than thinking about rent and how to feed themselves thus dedicating all the time to teaching the pupils and this will improve their performance.
