Abstract
NGOs have continued to wind-up, despite the existence in a fairly an enabling environment. NGOs have substantially supplemented the work of government in offering different projects across all sectors. Some of the projects implemented include but not limited to, livelihood projects, education support, health support, infrastructure, human rights support, water and sanitation, climate change resilience. The government through its institutions was responsible for regulations thus providing an enabling environment. Institutions have been also broadly understood in different perspectives, including, donors who have funded NGOs, professional institutions, government agencies, forums, among others. Therefore, as a result of unguaranteed existence of NGOs, the researcher carried out a study to ascertain how pressures from institutions including, normative pressures, coercive pressures and mimetic influenced NGOs sustainability in Wakiso District. The researcher also tested the significance and direction of these variable when individually and jointly super imposed on NGOs sustainability. The study employed an institutional theory approach to explain how institutions related with NGOs. The study reviewed the literature of previous authors basing on the highlighted objectives of the study. The study designed a method that was employed during data collection, analysis, interpretation and deductions. A cross-sectional and quantitative design were some of the study approaches designed during field study. Additionally, closed ended questionnaire tool with 5 point likert scale was employed during data collection. Correlation and regression analysis/ models were used during data analysis to establish the association between variables and the degree of predictability of independent variables on the dependent variable. The study interpreted the findings ranging from its mean, standard deviation (variance) results to Correlation and regression analysis results. Correlation analysis generated both positive and negative responses compared to NGOs sustainability. Conversely when the combined effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable test was carried out, hierarchical regression generated Negative responses for all independent variables except mimetic pressures. A thorough discussion of the findings relative to the literature was conducted and then later conclusions were drawn basing on the study outcomes and recommendation were suggested to help managers improve on their comprehensions of the variables. The study suggested areas of further studies and discoveries in line with the concepts of institutional pressures and sustainability. None the less, the study also had some limitations which were pointed out. And lastly references that informed citations and letters seeking and granting permission were accordingly sought and attached as appendices.
