Abstract
The purpose of the study was to assess the relationship between organizational collaboration, disaster preparedness, risk management and agile response among humanitarian organizations operating in Uganda. The research was led by three goals: to investigate the link between organizational collaboration and agile response within humanitarian organizations, to examine the relationship between disaster preparedness and agile response among humanitarian organizations and to examine the relationship between risk management and agile response among humanitarian organizations. A cross-sectional design was employed in this study to examine the relationship between organizational collaboration, disaster preparedness, risk management and agile response among humanitarian organizations operating in Uganda. The population for this study comprised of 80 humanitarian organizations actively operating in the country. The unit of analysis was humanitarian organizations, and the units of inquiry were the listed staff disaster coordinators, project/program managers or logistics managers in those organizations. A sample size of 66 humanitarian organizations from the target population of 80 was selected using the sample determination table developed by Krejcie and Morgan (1970). Three respondents per humanitarian organization were selected to participate in the study. Purposive sampling method was used to establish the respondents. According to Katebire (2007), it minimizes bias, and every member stands a chance of being selected. The findings showed a positive and significant relationship between the study variables. The findings mean that when there is an improvement in organizational collaboration, disaster preparedness, risk management these will improve on agile response. This implies that any positive change in organizational collaboration, disaster preparedness and risk management will result in a positive change in agile response of humanitarian organizations. In conclusion, this means that, among humanitarian organizations in Uganda, improvements in organizational collaboration, disaster preparedness, and risk management would lead to improvements on agile response among humanitarian organizations. Disaster Preparedness has a greater contribution on Agile Response compared to Organizational Collaboration and Risk Management. This can be interpreted to mean that, even though improvement in Agile Response requires improved organizational collaboration, disaster preparedness and risk management, Disaster Preparedness should never be compromised. The study utilized a cross-sectional design, which involves collecting data at a single point in time. The conclusions drawn from such studies are constrained to the present period only. Therefore, future research should consider employing a longitudinal research design to monitor humanitarian organizations in Uganda over an extended period.
