The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between managerial control systems and performance of public school construction projects. The study was guided by three specific objectives; to establish the relationship between behavioural control, outcome control and clan control on performance of public schools construction projects in Jinja District Local Government. The study was anchored on the control theory and targeted 80 public school construction projects, with a sample size of 66 projects. The study used a cross sectional design, collected data using a survey questionnaire which were checked for validity and reliability by the use of expert judgement and Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient respectively. The data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics, and the findings indicated a significant relationship between behavioural, outcome and clan control systems with performance of schools construction projects. The study concluded that to improve performance of school construction projects, behavioural control, outcome control and clan managerial control systems are a major perquisite. The study recommends that school construction stakeholders need to shift their focus towards managerial control systems more so behavioural, clan and outcome control systems to attain the stipulated indicators of school construction project performance. Therefore, future studies may apply a mixed research design or any other design especially, longitudinal, case study, or explanatory research design to enable us to gain more insights and accurate findings concerning the relationship between behavioral, clan and outcome control on project performance.
