dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between information technology capabilities, distribution management and logistics performance in Ugandan third-party logistics firms. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted using a sample of 227 third party logistics firms out of a sample size of 293 firms that were contacted. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires that were hand delivered to the respondents. Overall, 366 usable questionnaires from the 227 firms representing 80% response rate were collected for analysis. The analysis of data involved descriptive statistics for demographics, correlations and regression analyses for answering the research questions in accordance with the set objectives. The results revealed positive and significant relationships between the following variables; IT capabilities and logistics performance, IT capabilities and distribution management and distribution management and logistics performance. Furthermore, IT capabilities and distribution management were found to account for up to 45.7% of the variance in logistics performance. Lastly, distribution management emerged as a partial mediator in the relationship between IT capabilities and logistics performance. Based on the study findings, recommendations were advanced regarding the need to strengthen IT capabilities and distribution management so to enhance logistics performance in Ugandan third party logistics firms.
