A sample size of 372 MSEs selected using probability sampling techniques. Data from the field were processed and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS v26). Given the nature of the research objectives and hypotheses, parametric tests were used as the main analysis. Specifically, Pearson correlation was conducted to test the associations, while hierarchical regression was performed to test the contribution effect of each variable in explaining financial performance. Findings from the study indicate all firm characteristics and risk management techniqueshave a significant relationship with financial performance. All the variables under study explained 63.2% of the variations in financial performance of MSEs. Therefore, MSEs in Mbarara should strive to establish themselves for a longer duration in the market, leveraging their experience and reputation to improve financial performance over time. Secondly, MSEs should pay attention to workforce planning and optimization, ensuring that the number of employees aligns with business needs and productivity goals.
