Abstract
The aim of the study was to assess the relationship between perceived organization support and work engagement during COVID 19 pandemic in Arua District local government. The study sought to determine to what extent the work engagement is attributed to supervisor support, career support and financial and non-financial support. The study used a cross sectional survey design using a sample of 136 employees from which a response rate of 92.6% was achieved. The data was collected using questionnaire and was analyzed using SPSS version 20. Pearson correlation and regression analysis were used to determine the degree of relationship and predictive power between supervisor support, career support and financial and non-financial support and work engagement of employees in Arua district local government in Uganda. Findings of the study indicated a significant positive relationship between supervisor support, career support and financial and non-financial support and work engagement. The regression analysis results revealed that supervisor support, career support and financial and non-financial support predicts 25.0% of the observed variance in work engagement. The management of Arua district local government should put emphasis on supervisor support since it has more predictive power (47.9%) on work engagement than career support and financial and non-financial support. This could be done by providing supportive work environment and empowering supervisors to organize work to jointly benefit the employee and the organization, listen to staff problems and solve their work and non-work-related conflicts. Supervisors should also act as a good role model for work and non-work balance, demonstrate to the employee how to be jointly successful on and off the job and consider employee suggestions in order to bring positive changes in work engagement in Arua district local government.
