    Communication Management, Community Empowerment and Sustainability of Market Development Projects in Kampala District.

    This study investigated the relationship between communication management, community empowerment, and the sustainability of market development projects in the Kampala District. Specific objectives were; (i) To assess the relationship between communication management and project sustainability of market development projects, (ii)To examine the relationship between communication management and community empowerment of market development projects (iii) To analyze the relationship between community empowerment and project sustainability of market development projects and (iv) To analyze the combined effect of communication management and community empowerment on project sustainability. A correlational research design was adopted in carrying out this study with quantitative and qualitative data collection approaches. Data was collected from 80 market development projects using simple random techniques through a questionnaire, interview, and FGD guide. The interview informants were market development project leaders. Descriptive and inferential methods of analysis were applied, Pearson and linear regression were applied for quantitative data, and thematic content analysis for qualitative data. Results indicated that there was a positive statistically significant relationship between communication management and project sustainability of market development projects [r = 0.553, p-value 0.001 < 0.05], communication management and community empowerment of market development projects [r = 0.462, p-value, 0.009 < 0.05], community empowerment and project sustainability of market development projects [r = 0.611, p-value 0.007 < 0.05] and a significant combined effect of communication management and community empowerment on sustainability of market development projects [R2 = 0.937, p-value 0.006 < 0.05]. It was concluded that; Communication management was significantly related to project sustainability of market development projects, a positive significant relationship between communication management and community empowerment of market development projects existed, community empowerment was statistically related to project sustainability, and communication management and community empowerment has a high positive statistically significant effect on project sustainability. It was recommended that management and leadership of the market development projects should strengthen communication management by coming up with more technology-based platforms, community empowerment activities should be provided the more to let the market development project owners have their future in focus, and sustainable communication management and community empowerment programs should be enhanced for entrepreneurship skills, youth development, production and value creation for market development projects sustainability.
