Cash Flow Management, Diversification and the Financial Performance of Medium Enterprises.
    (2024) Tusiime, Damasco Kamahanga
The purpose of the study is to examine the influence of cash flow management and diversification on the financial performance of medium manufacturing firms in Kampala. The study employed a cross sectional design and a quantitative approach. A sample of 285 was taken from a population of 1025 medium manufacturing enterprises in Kampala Uganda. Primary data was collected from medium manufacturing enterprise managers using a validated self-administered questionnaire that yielded a response rate of 60.0%. The reliability of the questionnaire was tested and yielded Cronbach’s Alpha coefficients that were above the threshold of 0.7. Data of this study was analyzed using SPSS software to analyze both descriptive and inferential statistics and the results were presented in tables. Findings of the study revealed a significant positive relationship between cash flow management and financial performance of medium manufacturing enterprises. Findings further revealed that diversification has positive but insignificant relationship with financial performance. However, geographical diversification was found to be positively and significantly associated with financial performance yet product diversification had no significant relationship with financial performance. Regression results revealed that a combination of cash flow management and diversification influence financial performance in medium manufacturing enterprises. The study recommends that Medium manufacturing firms should ensure proper cash flow management and should be very careful when making a decision to diversify in the products they do manufacture. It is also recommended that Medium manufacturing firms should automate their cash flow management processes in order to mitigate the risks that may be associated it.
