EvaristThe purpose of this study was to establish the relationship between managerial competences, working capital management and financial performance of manufacturing firms in Mbarara city. The study was guided by three objectives which included; examining the relationship between managerial competences and financial performance, working capital management and financial performance and the combined effect of managerial competences, working capital management and financial performance of manufacturing firms in Mbarara City. The study adopted a cross-sectional research design which included quantitative approach of data collection and analysis. The study involved a sample size of 118 manufacturing firms and this sample size was determined based on the Krejicie and Morgan table (1970) and the finance/ general manager formed the unit of inquiry. Respondents were subjected to a self–administered closed-ended questionnaire; Data from the field was processed and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS). Given the nature of the research objectives and research questions, correlation analysis was conducted to test the relationship between the study variables while regression analysis was used to test the combined effect of independent variables with the dependent variable. The study revealed a positive significant relationship managerial competence and financial performance, working capital management and financial performance and the combined effect of managerial competences, working capital management and financial performance of manufacturing firms in Mbarara City. Therefore, there is need by the manufacturing firms to focus on managerial competences since it will improve financial performance. This means that trainings related to knowledge, abilities and skills will improve financial performance of manufacturing firms in Mbarara City.
