    Project Management Functions and Projects Sustainability in Uganda: A Case of Kampala Capital City Authourity (Kcca) Wash Projects.

    This dissertation investigates the relationship between project management functions and the sustainability of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) projects within Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in Uganda. It focuses on the sustainability of the interventions arising from implementation of WASH projects. As explained through the aspects of planning, execution, and controlling, using data collected from 195 respondents involved in 39 WASH projects. Utilizing Pearson Correlation Coefficient and multiple regression analysis, the study uncovers significant positive correlations between each project management function and project sustainability. The regression results indicate that planning, execution, and controlling are significant predictors of sustainability, all at a significance level of 0.000. Among these, project execution emerges as the most influential predictor of sustainability with a beta value of 0.291 compared to project planning and control which have beta values of 0.277 and 0.289 respectively. Together, these functions contribute 0.383 to achieving project sustainability. The study recommends the implementation of comprehensive monitoring and evaluation systems and enhanced training in advanced project management practices. These measures will equip project managers with essential tools to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of WASH projects. The dissertation concludes that meticulous planning, robust execution strategies, and stringent controlling measures are vital for the sustainability of WASH projects in Kampala. This research enriches project management knowledge and provides practical insights for sustaining development projects in Uganda and in similar contexts.
