    Institutional Support, Financial Knowledge, And Access to Finance for Smallholder Farmers in Uganda; A Case of Wakiso District.

    This study investigates the relationship between institutional support, financial knowledge and access to finance for small holder farmers in Wakiso District. Specifically, the study investigates the relationship between institutional support and access to finance for small holder farmers in Wakiso District. It further investigates the relationship between financial knowledge and access to finance for small holder farmers in Wakiso District. The study finally investigates the combined effect of institutional support and financial knowledge on access to finance for small holder farmers in Wakiso District. The study uses quantitative approach, utilizing both correlation and regression analysis techniques on primary data source to investigate the objectives of the study. The results in this study indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between institutional support and access to finance for small holder farmers in Wakiso District. Secondly, the results in this study indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between financial knowledge and access to finance for small holder famers in Wakiso District. Finally, the results in the study indicate that there is a positive and significant combined effect between institutional support and financial knowledge on access to finance for small holder farmers in Wakiso District in the period under review. The policy recommendation in this study is that institutional support and financial knowledge should be promoted in Wakiso District in order to enhance further access to finance for small holder farmers. There should also be prioritization of the development of inclusive financial policies that specifically target the needs of smallholder farmers.
