    Employee Competences, Employee Attitudes, Information and Communication Technology Usage and Logistics Performance: A Case of Third-Party Logistics Companies in Kampala.

    The study focused on establishing the relationship between employee competence, employee attitude and ICT usage on logistics performance of third-party logistics companies (3PLs) in Uganda. This study was carried out because of the report which emphasized that Ugandan’s 3PLs present inefficiencies in the quality of infrastructure of warehousing, transport, and use of information technology and that 3PLs have inadequate skills and experience in the use of several logistics technologies which influence logistics performance. The unit of analysis was the 3PLs licensed by the Uganda Revenue Authority to offer services in Uganda while the unit of inquiry was two employees engaged in logistics operations of 3PLs in Kampala. These two employees were either a Clearing and Forwarding personnel, Logistics /Transport personnel, Warehouse personnel, or Operations Manager. For each of the 200 3PLs that constituted the sample size, 2 employees from any of the categories named above were selected giving a total of 400 respondents. Using a quantitative cross-sectional survey, the study realized a response rate of 76% (152 3PLs). The data were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Scientists (SPSS) with focus on descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and regression analyses. The correlation coefficient results revealed a significant positive relationship between ICT usage and logistics performance; between employee competence and ICT usage; and also, between employee attitude and ICT usage. In the study, ICT usage fully mediates the relationship between employee competence and logistics performance. Also, ICT usage fully mediates the relationship between employee attitude and logistics performance. The findings show that employee competence and employee attitude predict ICT usage. From the regression model, ICT usage is a significant predictor of logistics performance.
