Board Role Performance, Internal Audit Quality and Quality Service in Uganda’s Statutory Corporations.
(Makerere University Business School, 2024-10-29) Nuwagaba Arnold
The purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between internal audit quality, board role performance, and quality of service in statutory corporations in Uganda. The specific objectives of the study were to establish the relationship between internal audit quality and quality of service in statutory corporations in Uganda, to determine the relationship between board role performance and quality of service in statutory corporations in Uganda, and to determine the combined contribution of board role performance and internal audit quality on quality of service in statutory corporations in Uganda. The data collection tools were tested for reliability using Cronbach's alpha and validity using Content validity index, and the instruments were found to be valid and reliable. The study controlled for organizational size and age. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical regression. The study findings revealed that age and organizational size did not significantly predict quality of service. As regards inferential statistics, the study established a statistically significant positive relationship between internal audit quality and quality of service in statutory corporations, a significant positive relationship between board role performance and quality of service, and board role performance and internal audit quality both contribute to variations in quality of service. The study recommends that the board of directors should facilitate cross-generational collaboration, contribute to strategy development through careful refinement of strategic plans, ensure that corporate strategy is well thought out and executed, appoint and dismiss the chief executive/managing director, delegate authority to management, and monitor its implementation, among other responsibilities.
