    Material Management Strategies and Construction Project Performance in Construction Companies: A Case of Central Buganda.

    The study aimed to explore the relationship between material handling, stock control, and waste management in relation to construction project performance. The study addressed the persistent issue of delays, budget overruns, and compromised quality in construction projects within Central Buganda, attributed to poor material management practices. The key objectives were to assess the impact of material handling, stock control, and waste management on overall project performance. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, with data collected from 39 construction companies involved in ongoing projects. The total population included 60 active construction projects, and a sample size of 195 respondents was selected for the study. Data was gathered through structured questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS version 26, applying both Pearson correlation and regression analysis to determine the strength and predictive power of the variables. The Pearson correlation results indicated a strong positive relationship between the variables studied and construction project performance. The regression analysis revealed that material handling and stock and waste control together explained 69% of the variance in project performance, with stock and waste control having a more substantial impact than material handling. The major findings demonstrated that effective material management, particularly stock and waste control, significantly contributes to improved project timelines, cost-efficiency, and overall quality. Based on these results, the study recommends that construction companies in Central Buganda adopt more advanced material management technologies and improve their stock and waste management practices. The study further emphasized the need for companies to integrate these strategies into their broader project management frameworks to enhance project success and sustainability. These findings are critical for improving the performance of construction projects in Central Buganda and can inform future policy and management practices in the industry.
