    The Assessment of Automated Business Recovery Practices at National Social Security Fund (Nssf), Uganda.

    This study set out to examine the role of automated business recovery in enhancing service continuity at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). The research was motivated by the increasing dependence on digital systems in public institutions and the rising risks associated with data loss, system outages, and operational disruptions. With NSSF being a major custodian of national savings and social security records, it was important to understand how automation in disaster recovery supports uninterrupted service delivery. The study was guided by three core objectives: to assess existing automated recovery practices, to identify the challenges faced in implementing these practices, and to evaluate the strategies adopted to strengthen automated recovery capabilities within the organization. The study employed a descriptive research design, integrating both quantitative and qualitative methods to obtain a comprehensive view of the situation. From the population of 800, a sample of 260 NSSF employees formed the basis of the study, out of which 172 respondents participated, representing a response rate of approximately 77 percent. The sample was selected using a stratified sampling technique to ensure representation across different departments. Data was collected using structured questionnaires and supplemented by key informant interviews for deeper qualitative insights. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, while thematic analysis was applied to interview responses. Findings revealed that while NSSF has made significant strides in adopting automated recovery practices, including automated failover mechanisms, predictive analytics, and secure backup processes, several implementation gaps remain. These include limited scalability, inconsistent network reliability, high costs, and uneven staff knowledge. However, staff were generally supportive of strategies like regular simulation testing, hybrid backup systems combining cloud and local options, and ongoing staff training as effective means to improve resilience. Qualitative responses emphasized that technological solutions alone are insufficient without skilled personnel and consistent oversight. The study recommends the enhancement of cross-departmental training on automated recovery tools and the development of an integrated monitoring dashboard for better visibility and coordination during recovery processes. These steps would contribute to a more resilient and responsive recovery framework capable of sustaining critical services even in the face of digital disruptions.
