    Effective Communication, Risk Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Performance of Construction Projects in Kampala Metropolitan area.

    The study examined the influence of effective communication, risk management, and stakeholder engagement on the performance of construction projects in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, Uganda. Specifically, the study sought to establish the relationships between effective communication, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and project performance, and to determine the extent to which these factors influence construction project performance. A cross-sectional quantitative research design was adopted. The study targeted 100 ongoing housing and road construction projects approved by the Ministry of Works and Transport, from which 80 projects were selected. Three respondents were drawn from each project, yielding a target sample of 240, of whom 204 successfully participated, representing an 85% response rate. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analyses. The findings revealed significant positive relationships between effective communication and project performance (r = 0.712, p < 0.01), risk management and project performance (r = 0.755, p < 0.01), and stakeholder engagement and project performance (r = 0.681, p < 0.01). Regression analysis showed that the three independent variables jointly explained 63.2% of the variation in project performance (Adjusted R² = 0.632). Risk management emerged as the strongest predictor of project performance (β = 0.418), followed by effective communication (β = 0.299) and stakeholder engagement (β = 0.173), with all variables making statistically significant contributions. The study concludes that effective communication, sound risk management practices, and active stakeholder engagement are critical determinants of successful construction project performance in Uganda. It recommends that construction firms adopt integrated communication systems, strengthen risk management capacity through continuous training and systematic risk assessment, and implement comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies to improve project outcomes across time, cost, scope, and stakeholder satisfaction.
