- ItemIntellectual Capital, Lending Strategy and Branch Performance of Commercial Banks in Uganda:(Makerere University Business School, 2024-08-29) Matovu BakerThis research study sought to examine the relationship between intellectual capital, lending strategy and the branch performance of Stanbic bank branches in Greater Kampala and Wakiso Region. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design using quantitative approaches. A sample of 19 branches which was determined from the population using the (Krejcie & Morgan, 1970) table of sample size determination was chosen from a population of 21 Stanbic bank branches in Greater Kampala and Wakiso. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire physically delivered by the researcher at different Stanbic bank branches. A response rate of 93.4 percent was obtained from the study. Analysis was done using SPSS computer software version 25. Pearson’s correlation statistics indicated positive and significant relationships between intellectual capital and branch performance; lending strategy and branch performance; plus, a combined relationship between intellectual capital, lending strategy and branch performance. Intellectual capital was found to be a stronger predictor (Beta figures of .573) of branch performance compared to lending strategy (Beta figures of .404). Since the correlation findings indicate a strong relationship between Intellectual capital and branch performance, the researcher recommends for investments in employee training, knowledge-sharing platforms, and initiatives that enhance both individual and collective intellectual capital. The researcher further recommends that Stanbic bank branches should establish mechanisms for continuous monitoring of the effectiveness of lending strategies.
